Consistency is the quality of always behaving or performing in a similar way. I wanted to talk about this trait and in particular how it contributes to the success that most of us desire. Although there are many traits and attributes that will form a person’s ability to be successful, I believe that the most important, and most simple is this. Consistency leads to habits. Habits form the actions we take every day. Action leads to success.
For me, consistency was a big part of the growth of my business. In order for me to be seen and recognised within the reselling market I had to be consistent with posting good content on a daily basis. My consistency was always fuelled by my long term vision and knowing that every small or big, daily task completed would equate to much larger results in the future. Along this journey, being consistent could be difficult, especially when there wasn’t instant results, but the way I overcame this hurdle was by always remembering why I started this journey and envisioning my end goal.
Over the course of the past 4 years, I’ve experienced many ups and downs, had plenty of days where sales have been slow, my followers have gone down and even worse than this, the day I lost my Instagram account. But, even on those days I still posted content, sourced new items and followed up customers. These tasks are the same tasks I would have done on my best days too. My point is, that even on the really bad days, the days where you have no motivation or you just can’t be asked, you have to do it anyway. Think about the end goal, envision the thing you’re working towards and take the action required to get you there. You won’t see a difference instantly. You won’t be a millionaire in a week. But if you stick with those tasks everyday, you will get there.
As one of my favourite actors said;
“You don’t try and build a wall, you don’t set out to build a wall. You don’t say I’m going to build the biggest, baddest, greatest wall that’s ever been built. You don’t start there.. You say I’m going to lay this brick as perfectly as a brick can be laid. And then you do that every single day and soon you will have a wall.” – Will Smith
